2010年あたりからインターネット時代（この言い方がなんか古い）の新しいイベント方式はいろいろ世界中で模索されている。
CBCNETが20日に主催するBYOB TOKYOもそういった流れのひとつ。詳しい記事はこちら

そして、SPEED SHOWもそんな流れから生まれたプロジェクトだ。

自身もアーティストで、最近ではUSBメモリを壁に埋め込むDead dropsという作品が話題となったAram Barthollが2010年にスタートしたSPEED SHOW。

簡単に説明すると、
インターネットカフェにあるパソコンをすべて借りて、それぞれのブラウザでオンライン上のアート作品を流しつつ、アーティストや友人と集う、という単純なもの。

ヨーロッパのアーティスト中心に広がり、ドイツ、オランダ、イタリア、ニューヨークなどで開催されている。
どんな感じのイベントになるかは一回目のを見てもらうのがわかりやすい。

本来の目的とは違う使い方で場所をハックし、超簡単にイベントを開催する、という現代らしい考えが背景にはある。

そこで今回NYCにて、SPEED SHOW形式のエキシビジョンとしてAPMTにも数回来日しているEvan Rothによるソロショー‘When We Were Kings’が7月に開催され、その模様を収録したのが上のBBCによるビデオだ。

今回はすべてEvanによる作品で、数は20あまり。

このSPEED SHOW企画を日本でやろう、ということも何度か向こうのアーティストと話したことがあるのだが、なかなか東京で開催するのがピンとこなかった。
まず、欧米のインターネットカフェは、何かチープでパソコンなども古い、多様な人種の方がいて、ちょっと怖い店主、みたいなイメージのところで現代っぽいコンテンツをやるというのがこの企画の面白さなんだけど、日本だとインターネットカフェではなく基本漫画喫茶、しかも超綺麗、最新のPC、個室が普通、路面店にはまずない。
なので、東京でやるならもう少し違うアプローチでやらないとハマらないかなと。
