Scien & Klor: Q：123Klanっていったい何？どうやって始まったの？
Scien: 123Klan はまず1992年にKlorと僕とではじめたグラフィティーのクルーなんだ。
他のメンバーはドイツからDean, Sper, DJ Ano と Reso。Klorとは一緒にグラフィックデザイナーとして同じ名義「123Klan」として活動しているんだ。
なので123klanはグラフィティーがグラフィックデザインとミックスしたものに特化しているファミリーのようなものだね。
Q：グラフィティーのバックグラウンドがあるようだけど、今のスタイルはどのように築いてきたの？
S:まあなんというかすべては自然な流れだったんだよ。95年に初めてのマックを買ったとき自分たちのグラフィティースタイルを使ってイラストレーター5で練習するのは
自然なことだったんだ。この時期は僕たちはどうやればグラフィックデザインのシーンの中で自分たちのスタイルが確立できるのかを模索していた。他のグラフィックデザイナーとどうやれば違うことが出来るのかってね。だからグラフィックとグラフィティーをミックスする自分たちのオリジナルスタイルを作っていったんだ。
Q：昔のグラフィティーの作品を見ると日本の漫画のキャラクターがいますよね。孫悟空とかアトムとか。
初期の段階ではどのようなものに影響を受けましたか？また漫画で好きなキャラクターは？
S:そうだね。僕たちは日本の漫画が大好きなんだ。グラフィティーのように色がとても鮮やかで、すべてのアウトラインがそれぞれの形を閉じるようにできているからね。好きな漫画はすごく多いけど、その中でいくつか言うと、ガッチャマン、鉄腕アトム、ガンダム、マジンガーZとかいろいろ・・・。けど
Vaughn Bod、THE POWER PUFF GIRLS、dexter（デキスターラボ）、SPONGE BOBも同じように大好きなんだ。
Q：創作しているときは何を大事にしていますか。
S:まず本能や直感で創作すること大事にするね。僕たちはいつもフレッシュで新しい方法を模索することが大好きなんだ。あと「僕たちはDJのスクラッチのように製作をする。」って言っているんだけど、それはフリースタイルで自然にやることがもっともオリジナルで楽しいことをするやり方なんだって意味だよ。
僕たちはいつも同じ直感を持ち続けたい。ストリートでは僕たちの作品は視覚的に強烈なインパクトを与えなければならない。だから僕らは"Style is
the message" （スタイルがメッセージだ）とも言っているんだ、これは僕らはグラフィティーやグラフィックのスキル以外は別に特別なメッセージはないんだよね。
Q：現在のデザインやグラフィティーシーンに関してはどう思いますか？
まあグラフィティーに関しては沢山のクリエイティビティーと興味深いことはあるよね。
グラフィックデザインはとてもリンクしていることなんだ。それは「ある特定の場所に何かを作る」ってことだからね。与えられた場所に最高の形で要素を構築していく。多くのグラフィティーライターが優れている、それはもしかしたら彼らは鉛筆で紙に正確な文字やフォントのベストな書き方を知っている最後の人たちかもしれないんだから。今のグラフィックデザイナーでも彼らのレベルにはないよ。
あなたが大好きなフレーズ、ラインは何ですか？

Scien: "WE CREATE LIKE A DJ SCRATCH"
Q：将来へのヴィジョン、123klanは一体次に何を？
S：そうだね、実はすごく沢山のプロジェクトを考えているんだ。2005年に向けてカバンや文房具の大きな展開をする予定で、あとクライアントワーク、そしてもっと多くの壁をペイントすることだね。あとは展示会をパリ、アムステルダムとロンドンで行う予定。日本にもぜひ行ってみたいね。
Q：日本や日本のデザインに対しての印象は？
S:日本のグラフィックデザインはとても印象的で強烈なインパクトがあるよ。多くの日本のデザイナーには感謝している、たとえばFuriFuri, Maricha,
Itsuo Ito, Power Graphix, Skull Dezain, 3KG, kitkなどなどにね。特にSkull dezainのやっていることは大好きだよ。ハードコアフレッシュって感じで。

Scien: 123klan is firstable a graffiti crew founded by Klor and myself in 1992,
the other members are: Dean, Sper, DJ Ano and Reso from Germany, with klor we are also freelancing as Graphic snipers under the same name:"123klan"
So 123klan is a family busines specialised in graffiti mixed with graphic design.
Q:With the graffiti background,
how did it develop to get to the style today?
S: Well, everything happened naturally, when
we bought our first mac in 1995, it was natural for us to practice on illustrator
5 with our graffiti style, at this period we were looking how we could get our
own style in the graphic design scene, i mean how could we be differents from
others graphic designers, so, we begun to mix our graphics and our graffiti style
in one same style.
Q:From your old graffiti piece I
could find Japanese Manga characters.What kind of things were a influence to you
at the early stages?And what is your favoirte character or Manga?
S: Yes that's true, we love japanese mangas,
because like graffiti, the colours are fresh, and everything is composed with
an outlines to close each shapes. Concerning our favourite mangas, just to name
a few: Gatchaman, Astro Boy, Gundam, Grendeiser, mazinger and many more...
But we also love Vaughn Bod・ power the puff girls, samurai jack, dexter, sponge
bob as well.
Q:What do you keep in mind when
you create?
S: We always try to create with our first instinct,
i mean we love to improvise to keep it fresh and to explore new ways to create.
We also said:"We create like a DJ scratch" wich means freestyle and
be spontanous are sometimes the freshest way to get something original and fun.
We want to keep the same instinct like in the streets, our graphics must have
a strong visual impact directly at the first look, that's also why we say :"Style
is the message" wich means we haven't got any particulary messages to share
except our graffiti & graphic skills.
Q:How do you think of the design
and graffiti scene now?
S: Well, i think there is lot of creativity
and interesting things that graffiti could share
with graphic design, somewhere it is really linked, it's all about to create something,
on a certain space, to compose elements as best as possible on a given place.
Many graffiti writers are talented, they are maybe the last people who knows the
best how to draw perfectly a letter or a font on a sheet of paper with a pencil,
even graphic designers today haven't got their level.
Q:What is your favorite word phrase
or a line (word or sentence) ?

Scien: "WE CREATE LIKE A DJ SCRATCH"
Q:What is your vision to the
future? What's 123klan up to next ?
S: Well, we have many projects in mind, actually,
we will produce a big line of bags and stationnary for 2005, still work for clients,
still paint more walls for fun...
Also, we planned to do some exibitions in Paris, Amsterdam and London; we would
love to do one in Japan some days, so don't hesitate, invite us :)
Q:What is you impression to Japan
and Japanese design?
S: The graphic design in Japan is really impressive
and strong, we appreciate lot of japanese graphic designers, like: Furi furi,
Marichan, Itsuo Ito, Power Graphix, Skull Dezain, 3KG, kitk and many more... Japan
style is so clean, we particulary love what Skull dezain do (hardcore fresh).
