Internet promised us a \u201cvirtual reality\u201d; a simulated world brought to users through interaction with an electronic box.\u00a0 If anything, Web 2.0 has shattered our notions of \u201cvirtual reality\u201d and created a reality that is virtual, or digitalized.\u00a0 If Web 1.0 existed as two parallel realities, then Web 2.0 exists as a singular reality initiated by the user.\u00a0 Objects and immateriality are recognized as equally important, each having a distinct role in the act of visual consumption. The latter form exists in states of multiplicity as: uploaded, googled, blogged, reblogged, downloaded, and so on.\u00a0\u00a0 A digital version of an artwork, a work that has been photographed and uploaded online, existed formerly as a mode of documentation.\u00a0 These documentations attempted to simulate an offline experience, an experience dependent on an actual physical proximity to the thing documented.\u00a0 With the ease, and capacity at which one can now consume \u201cdigitalized\u201d works of art, these forms deny their past as simulations, and have taken on a new life as something else.\u00a0 It is not the mere act of documenting the experienced artwork that reveals these states, but the act of releasing this digitalized data upon the World Wide Web.  Thus, in the 21st century that which is immaterial has become imbued with the aura, as its existence cannot be materialized in one state, and the art object has become the form of documentation.
